#2433 Magnetic credit card readers

Posted by notehead on 20 March 2009 - 06:06 AM in Credit Card Processing & Accounting

These kind of readers like barcode scanners and other alternative input devices are 'wedges' in that they read and mimic a keyboard typing and or wedge themselves between the keyboard and the computer. You will often see them referred to as wedges.

In short they should be compatible with anything. It's almost like asking if you keyboard is compatible with MOM.

#2399 Where's MOM 6?

Posted by notehead on 06 February 2009 - 02:12 PM in MOM FAQ News & Information

Somehow this thread has gone from a venting of frustrations by David into a MOM bashing. I understand that MOM definitely has shortcomings and quirks, but the fact of the matter is that it is a pretty dang good program for the price that we pay. I definitely don't agree with the manner in which Dydacomp has rolled out v6. It is buggy and no indication was ever given that they were changing from free tables to database containers. I know that I specifically asked about the functionality of R&R with v6 before I purchased it in December '06 and I was assured that there would be no disruption in functionality. They were dead wrong. R&R is a product that Dydacomp promotes, but nobody took the time to test it before they went live.

In the past, I have looked at Stone Edge, Mailware, and Colinear Response. (I consider them to be the closest peers/competition to MOM.) None of those programs were able to meet my needs in different areas, so that's why I'm still using MOM. If you want a better program, you are going to have to pay for it; a lot more. If anyone hates the program that bad, stop using it. Switch to another software package. You'll be happier and we won't have to listen to you complain so much.

Sadly I have to agree. MOM's not perfect nor is Dydacomp, far from it but there is huge bang for the buck.

#2397 New MOM User

Posted by notehead on 05 February 2009 - 02:10 PM in MOM FAQ Introductions

I am very new to M.O.M. I just started working with it about a week and half ago. The company I work at uses MOM in conjunction with AbleCommerce. They have the List Management Module & Telemarketing Module. We currently do not have any of the report writers (which I am thinking we are going to need because the M.O.M. reports just don't cut it. I am also new to SQL, but I am interested in using the SQL capabilities with the MOM XL (5.4) that we have.

We've got quite a few issues with M.O.M. that began with nobody being trained on the system, and nobody being trained on how to enter data into the system. Data cleaning I can handle, I figured that out, but I need help with the report writing part. I'd also be interested in any information anyone has to offer on accessing tables in MOM directly, or being able to see a list of the tables, and the information they contain.

I am trying to be patient with M.O.M. but I've got to tell you it is hard! It seems like there are many short-comings with this program.

Thanks!

I am happy to share what I know which is extensive. I've been on MOM for 10 years and rarely use the MOM interface to access anything. I used MS access when we were on FOXPRO and now use management studio now that we're on sql.

#2396 XML Import

Posted by notehead on 05 February 2009 - 02:07 PM in Order Import/Export

Look at the name of the forums. ;)

I have fairly extensive knowledge of this. We recently migrated to Marketlive a tier 1 e-commerse provider and the integration is all done through XML both in and out.

MOM XML is a dumb flat file in xml format. Basically I mapped xml data using a great product called mapforce from altova. It has worked great for me. The learning curve was a little steep but it cost $1500 instead of 20-50K on paying someone to do the integration.

I am always happy to share what I know so please feel free to ask or msn or even call me.

#2360 Using MOM on two computers

Posted by notehead on 05 December 2008 - 12:18 PM in General Mail Order Manager Discussion

I agree Remote Desktop is your best bet and easiest to implement. I would use a vpn if it were me.

There are other more complicated methods depending on which MOM version you are on like XL where you can remotely connect to the data directly and run th client on you machine. A little slow depending on what you're doing.

#2343 New Mom 6.0 customer needs help

Posted by notehead on 17 November 2008 - 11:07 AM in General Mail Order Manager Discussion

HI everyone, I wish I would have read these posts before purchasing MOm and sitelink, is anybody currently satisafied with mom and sitelink basket? I read the early posts and nobody was, so Im curios now,

also if your using sitelink, did you have to manually put in every product, description and image, is there a way to import this information?

does anybody like the sitelink basket? its pretty expensive and doenst have all the features listed on the website that is said it had when I bought this, any other basket only that works with MOM, we have a great site already HTML built and dont want to switch yet to an asp.net website

anything anyone can tell me about sitelink basket and mom would be great, so far its been not fun at all,
thank you
isabella

It has not been too bad for us. Customer service and support are abysmal though. I am on the SQL (XL) version and because I've extensive knowledge of the data/backend, learned out of necessity, I can make it work quite well doing things it should do but doesn't.

Happy to help if you have any questions.
