We have 10 licenses for our three companies in MOM. Lately the speed of MOM has been slow. For example this morning when entering items for an order it would take 10 seconds or more for Mom to accept the item number after typing the item number and hitting enter. In the morning we are importing orders, processing orders, and entering new phone orders. With all of that going on do you think it isn't suprising that MOM is acting slow? We are using a Win2k server with users connected via workgroup (that I will soon replace with a Win2003server). We receive a lot of Record Locked messages in Mom when trying to access customers, orders, etc. I have spoken with Dydacomp about this and they told me that I might want to disable opportunistic file locking. http://support.micro...kb;en-us;129202

Has anyone else had to disable this in order to speed up MOM?

Thank You,

Its sound like an networking problem

solution i have found in my snippet file

What type of network do you have set up? Are all your computers running the
same version of Windows? I think file locking issues happen a lot if you
mix up Win9x/ME machines with WinNT/2k/XP.

It could be that something is actually holding on to the files. Anything
like virus scanners, backup programs, that type of thing. Also, it could be
something on the MOM server. It's running on a Windows machine right? I
tried keeping the MOM files on a Snap Server once (which is Linux-based) &
got the same exact problems you're getting now, I think because
Linux/Windows lock files differently.

If you're running in a mixed environment (all Windows of course) you may
want to turn off opportunistic locking on all the machines (INCLUDING the
MOM server) to prevent weird file-locking issues. I've done it here & it
seems to have helped a lot, but your results may vary. There's a bunch of
registry settings you can apply to your machines, & on the Win9x/ME machines
you need to disable new file sharing symanetecs..I think it's under
properties when you right-click My Computer.

If you're really picky you may also want to disable file caching as well,
that way if MOM does crash at least the computer wrote everything to the MOM
files before it crashes. I'm picky so I did it here :)

Try googling opportunistic locking, or if you want I can dig up some of the
registry settings I use here. Hopefully that helps!
