Hi,

I'm finally at the point where I want to query MOM for some usable information to learn more about our customer's buying patterns, but I'm not sure where to start.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I should begin understanding how to build reports and mold them to fit my needs? Can you direct me to some online resources?

Thanks in advance for your help!
Andrew

I can help. I have many years experience with R&R and with MOM.
I am a consultant and charge a reasonable fee for my time.
We can hook up with PC Anywhere or a similar program and I will guide you through the steps to create the reports you need.

Call if you are interested.

Hi Andrew,

You've come to the right place for info and advice.
The key to getting started is ASKING THE RIGHT QUESTION!!
Allow me to elaborate. If you are interested in finding out anything about your customers start by formulating your query. Example:

I want to know which customers purchased product X,Y,Z between Jan 2005 and Jan 2006.

(I recommend using R & R report writer if you are a novice.)

In Report Writer you can build a query which will extract:

CUSTOMER information from the CUST.DBF table
PRODUCT information from the STOCK.DBF table
Sales date information from the ITEMS.DBF table

My advice is to get a copy of R & R report writer. Download some of the free templates on this forum in the Download section and experiment a little.

Once you get to this point, come back online and post the query you are trying to build. There are many experts here that would like to help.

Best,

DISCLAIMER: Always backup your MOMWIN folder before attempting to perform any updates, testing, etc. Once you blast the data away it's gone forever.
My advice is based on my 8 years of experience with MOM and Dydacomp. If you are not comfortable with data manipulation then hire someone who is.

Personally my weapon of choice is MS Access. I use ODBC to connect to the data and can do prety reports if I like or just direct queries to get immediate 'down and dirty' information. I like the easy user interface and the huge control I have over how I get at the data and to what level of data I can go. I can even write data back if I need to.

I just opened a dbf file with Lotus Approach 96 with no problem. :)

OpenOffice.org 2.0's Base seems to get to it all ok via ODBC.

Seems there are lots of options.
