Is it possible to delete a group of items at one time? From what I've gathered from techsupport I have to go through and delete items one at a time. Also, when I do a product import from a csv file, if i have a product in the file that already exists will it overwrite the item information that already exists in MOM?

If you really want to risk it... you can use dbuwin to mark items in your Stock.dbf as deleted. Just locate the item and check the box at the extreme left of the line. (that box will turn black - to undelete, check it again and it will turn white). Again, this is very risky and not recommended. If you delete the wrong items you could regret it.

Once you have marked the items for deletion, pack the file in dbuwin and they will be deleted forever.

If you import products from a csv file that already exists, I believe it will overwrite the item information already in MOM.

What do you mean by "pack the file"?

Also, I tried uploading an item through the product import with a csv file that was already in the system to see if it would override. It does not. Which is disappointing because that would be an extremely easy way to change pricing or product information on a large group of items. Yet another MOM disappointment.

One of the selections in dbuwin is to "pack" the file. Open a table that has lots of lines marked for deletion. Select Pack and Dbuwin will then go through the open table and remove all of the deleted items. Then it will recreate the indexes for that table. This function is not available if anyone is logged into MOM at the time.

In another situation yesterday, I found that MOM dedupes the imported file before it applies the import to the database. What that means is that any products uploaded to MOM that are already on file are ignored before the file is imported. I had forgotten that bit of information. That is one reason that I refused to upgrade to MOM 6 because I could not edit the data from an outside application. We jumped directly from MOM 5.4 to MOM XL 7. Under SQL we still have the ability to edit tables (very carefully of course).

If you are on MOM 7i, you can try to use Open Office to read and edit the stock table. I understand some people have been happy with that solution.

Hope that helps.

I do not see an option to pack the file. I am using mom 7i, dbuwin ver. 6.0. Can you please give me more detailed instructions to find that option?

Since I have converted to MOM XL, I no longer have the dbuwin program. So I can't help you find it except to say that EVERYONE has to be out of MOM and you can't be logged in to dbuwin using shared status. Open the table (I don't think you have to browse the table) and then look at each of the menu item drop down lists. You should find PACK under File or Table but I may be wrong.

Good luck!
