Hello MOM gurus-

During the batch process, I would like to have our packing slips printed out after being sorted by the description field. Every one of our items has the bin location in brackets like this [5-27-2] at the beginning of the description field, and this would make our lives MUCH easier. Can I do this in MOM or do I need to buy the R&R software? If I need the extra software, how do I modify the print job?

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

Go to Maintain : System Information : Global Parameters
Click the Forms tab.
Under Packing Slips, change the pull-down for "Sort Items On Packing Slips By" to "Description."

However, you should have really put the product's Bin value into MOM's "Bin ID" field instead of at the beginning of the Description, and then sorted your Packing Slips by Bin ID.

Hi Chris-

Thanks for the suggestions. We already had that option selected, and we do have our bins assigned in Bin ID. But the bin value doesn't print on the packing slips, so the Bin was put into the beginning of the description field for an easy fix. Having the bin as part of the desctription seemed to make a few other things in Mom a little easier, too, so that's what they did.

The options in Global Parameters have all been explored. Even though we had those options selected, our packing slips still would not sort the way we want. They do sort the individual items on one packing slip, but we want all of the packing slips sorted - the entire stack, and not just the items within a given packing slip. The majority of our orders are one item on a packing slip. Packing slips with more than one item can be sorted in at the beginning or end of the print job, or just printed separately.

I am all ears if there is a better way to do this. Right now, though, we only print the packing slips. We pick from the packing slips, and then the packing slip and the items are packed and out they go.

I am starting to think the answer lies in using the actual pick slips that were probably designed to sort this way from the beginning - it makes sense. I just don't want to change the whole exisitng process if we can merely get the packing slips to play along and sort nicely.

Thanks.

Correct... the Bin # prints out on the Pick Ticket (since that was designed to tell someone where to go to get product.) It doesn't print on the Packing Slip because in theory, that is a physical packing station and there is no need to fetch more products at that point, merely pack them.

Did anything ever come of this? My only experience is after I offered to pay to get pre-sorting (weight as it was easier than items- while giving me much closer to what I needed) and they indicated that it "can't be done"

Again, this wouldn't make sense. "Doing Mom Daily" wants the Packing Slips to print a certain way for the purpose of Picking. Why would they? Picking is done via Pick Tickets. Packing is just about throwing already-picked items into a box and have nothing to do with Bin Location.

Chris - I can see where you are coming from on this, but some of us don't print picking lists. For instance, I have my fulfillment center set up so that we pick directly from the packing slip. I have created my own custom packing slips, using R&R, that list the bin locations in walking sequence. It sounds like this is what "Doing MOM Daily" is trying to do. If I am understanding it correctly, that can't be accomplished out of MOM. If Dad wants to be set up as I've described, he's going to have to go down the same road I did and create custom packing slips using R&R, Crystal, or some other reporting app.
