Hi I was wondering if anyone can offer me some advice. I'm looking to integrate MOM more tightly with our website and hopefully using some automated batch code so stock levels, order status', product prices etc can be set in MOM and be reflected quickly on the website with minimum human intervention.

At the moment I'm taking a nightly copy of the Momwin directory, and then using OLEDB from EXCEL to convert the dbf files I'm interested in, in to CSV files which I can upload to the website and work on. The only downside to this, is that the website is only updated once daily using the nightly copy of the data.

Obviously I prefer working on the copy of the foxpro database but I need to find a way to safely make a copy of it, whilst it's in use, so I can update the website more frequently. I'm not too hot on Foxpro and searching the web, and sending mail to dynacomp hasn't offered a solution.

I'm guessing that doing a windows filecopy of the MOM directory wouldn't be safe whilst it's open? I'm guessing connecting to the live database using OLEDB isn't safe either? If anyone would have any ideas or advice I'd be all ears, and it would be much apreciated.

best wishes,

David

I think that you should be able to achieve this with a report writing program. I use R&R to do all of my reporting, many others that are part of this forum also use either R&R or Crystal. There is no problem with running reports while MOM is running.

I run an updated inventory report every 30 minutes and then post it to an FTP server so that my clients can log in and see an up to date inventory at their leisure. Each night, I run a series of reports that are used to update various clients and their websites with tracking and shipment info. No reason that it couldn't be done more frequently than nightly, but that is sufficient for what I'm doing.

R&R can be run from the command line, so I just use the Windows Task Scheduler to run all of my daily reports. Everything is completely hands off.

Hi
We currently have a system in place to handle what you want. Our system runs on ASP code and is web based. We would be willing to share the code and working with a company which has someone in house with knowledge in ASP or is willing to share the costs in adding some up grades.

Jay,

Are you saying you have created an R&R Report that collects the order status, tracking numbers (if applicable), etc. and then saves the results to a file and then uploads to your FTP server so customers can check the updated status of their orders? And that you then were able to create a batch file to automatically run this process for you?

I ask because I was just about to sit down this next week and start such a project. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Chris - You have it pretty much right on, except that I do 3rd party fulfillment, so the report access that I grant is to my fulfillment clients, rather than to the end recipient. If you want the nitty-gritty details of what I did to get there, you can email me and I'll provide further details.
