What in the world is this. When you go to process update the inventory everything just stops and it seems MOM waits for all orders to be closed on everyones screens, is that the way it works? My question is why does this message come up?

If I understand correctly, MOM needs to lock each order to check for any backorders received and change the status from backorder to committed. This is done in numerical order, one order at a time. If it comes to an order number that is open, it will sit and wait until that order is closed before proceeding. I rarely need to wait more than 5 minutes for the receiving process to complete.
If you have an order that holds up your process for a lengthy time, you can go to another MOM user and have them try to open the order that is shown on your screen. Their computer should tell you which user has the order open and you can check with them to see why they are holding the order open for so long.
If your users need to hold an order, have them use the "Come Back Later" button. This keeps the order on their desk but does not hinder the receiving process.
Hope this helps you...
