Customer Search Finding a Customer with Company Name

My company is preparing to move to 5.2 from 3.0 and in testing 5.2 it was noticed that the ability to search on a partial company name no longer works in 5.2.
Any way to fix this or is there some option that needs to be set? We really need this abiltiy.

Are you searching in the company field in the Customer and Order Lookup screen?
It works fine for us on that screen. I can just type in partial names and it returns the results. Type in a W and all the company names that begin with W show up.
