We have around 500 new products that are being added to our company
this year. I have them all in a database.

Has anyone imported new products into the Stock.dbf file..How did you
do it.. (Append?) also ... What about Bin Numbers? Importing them
seems a bit tricky..

Thanks

Brian

Bpaul,

We have had moderate success importing items into MOM 4.3

You can easily populate the STOCK.DBF table but you also need to populate BUYPRICE, INVANTRANS, and BIN in order to prevent data corruption.

Keep me posted on your progress.

DISCLAIMER: Always backup your MOMWIN folder before attempting to perform any updates, testing, etc. Once you blast the data away it's gone forever.
My advice is based on my 8 years of experience with MOM and Dydacomp. If you are not comfortable with data manipulation then hire someone who is.

David-

Do you have specific information about these tables (BUYPRICE, INVANTRANS, and BIN )? We have made numerous request to Dydacomp about how to import new items directly into MOM but they have been very unhelpful.

Thanks

Ken

Ken,
I import most new products into MOM using the append feature in DBU.win. I have never had any problems messing things up. They are always new products and I make sure to not duplicate stock numbers. That can be a mess. I have an import map layed out in Excel and just populate the correct fields. Now I only populate the stock number, Description, units, low level, unitweight, unit cost, price, upc code, size color field marked true if there are sizes and colors, and an ISBN number for the purchase orders. Bin numbers I do not know as we do not use them(and I am sure this is going to come back to haunt me someday). Support told me to always import items with at least a qty of 1 and then MOM will create a bin for them. We have done that and have had no problems. Some things have to be just right like if the product has a size color the size color starts at the 11th position in the stock number field. So a stock number of 234 with a size of Med would have to be in the table as "234 MED".
Thats 234 6 spaces and then MED. You then have to mark the size color field as true.

David who posted above may be importing more fields than that so that is where corruption could come into play. He is way more knowledgable than me on MOM and his post have solved many a problems for me so I would pay close attention to what he says.

Good luck!

is it possible to just import a price list even if you have no inventory? we get price lists for thousands of parts, and it takes some time to decide what we are likely to sell. I would like to update all the info first and then revisit it as time passes

thanks
