We have no real need for bins, but apparently have to use them. We found this out after entering most of our products. There has to be a way to assign bins and warehouses to our products using dbuwin or Visual Foxpro, but I am not a DB guy and don't want to mess things up too badly. The dydacomp guy said that the DBs that needed to be modified are bin, stock and inventor, but would not tell me what to modify.

Any Ideas?

Thanks,
Mike

Hi malexios,

1. How many stock items do you have?
2. How did you get the stock info into mom. (I'm guessing you did some type of import since the bins are not setup).

I would suggest getting the help of MOM HELPERs if you are going to start mucking around with those 3 tables. If you don't make the proper references to each table your data will be corrupted in no time. 100 % once you try and re- index.

Cheers,

DISCLAIMER: Always backup your MOMWIN folder before attempting to perform any updates, testing, etc. Once you blast the data away it's gone forever.
My advice is based on my 8 years of experience with MOM and Dydacomp. If you are not comfortable with data manipulation then hire someone who is.

We have around 5000 items which were all imported. MOM Helpers wants $800 to do it...

Hi,

$800 bucks isn't bad as long as they give you the facilty to do it again. If you are buying a tool from MOM HELPERS that will allow you to forever import the stock items at that cost than great!

Since I'm a nice guy B) I'll tell ya how you can do it yourself with minimal fuss.

RULE # 1: ALWAYS BACKUP YOUR MOMWIN FOLDER BEFORE YOU TRY ANYTHING!

Email me: [email protected] and I will send you a sample excel file for BIN / INVENTOR / STOCK

From these 3 files you will see how the tables are setup.

1. You will populate the inventor and bin file with a matching BID ID (anynumber you want)
2. Using DBUWIN you will APPEND to your BIN / INVENTOR from the excel files you have populated.

Follow my examples and you will be able to create your own data set.

Cheers,

David

We had HUGE bin problems when we imported our items -- I can't stress this enough - do it right before you start using the system.

It will create duplicate & triplicate & more identical bins (every time you re-index) for the same item and your net on shelf amounts will not even be close to matching the amounts in all of your bins.

I tried exporting our inventory to a .txt file from MOM, then imported it into another warehouse. It lists the items as 'unassigned' but seems to work otherwise. Are there any repercussions from this that I can't see?

Hey there. I am new to using mom, but feel pretty comfortable importing and exporting through DBWIN using excel files. We are having the same problem assigning bins. We really dont need to use the bin information, but cant have our inventory corrupted every time we re-index. Videoflicks2004, could you please email me those sample files that you were talking about. It would help a lot. I tried requesting them from you through email, but never got a response. I am sure your busy, and any help would be greatly appreciated. If anyone at all can help, please let me know.

Thanks

Hi guys,

I'm sorry I haven't been able to respond to any posts in the last couple of weeks. Things have been terribly busy here. We run several companies from our office in Mississauga, ON and there is never a dull moment. Our recent battle with D.O.S attacks has me yanking my hair out of my head. It never ends.

Back to the reason I am writing this post:

DISCLAIMER: Always backup your MOMWIN folder before attempting to perform any updates, testing, etc. Once you blast the data away it's gone for good.
My advice below is based on my 5 years of experience with MOM and Dydacomp. I am providing this outline as a guide. If you are not comfortable with data manipulation then hire someone who is. Any job worth doing, is worth doing right the first time.

HOW TO CREATE YOUR OWN SAMPLE FILES BASED ON MOM DATABASE TABLES

1. Click Start / RUN / Z:\momwin\dbuwin.exe s
-note: substitute "Z:" with the correct mapping to your MOMWIN drive
2. Log into DBUWIN with your mom id and password.
3. Click OPEN
4. Open any .dbf table that you would like to create a sample of. Example. Import.dbf
5. Click Browse. You will now have the window of data open in front of you.
6. Click on TABLE
7. COPY TO
8. EXCEL TABLE
9. Save the output file somewhere that you will be able to retrieve it. (like your desktop).

VOILA! You've got a excel copy of the table with all the fields and data that you will need to copy / follow in order to create your own dataset to later import into mom.

APPENDING THE DATA YOU CREATE BACK INTO MOM:

1. Follow the step 1 through 5 listed above to get into the database you are appending to.
2. Click TABLE
3. CLICK APPEND FROM
4. CLICK EXCEL WORKSHEET
5. FIND THE FILE YOU CREATED WITH ALL YOUR NEW DATA. (remember that every field must be populated with the appropriate data type (character / Numbers / Dates)
6. Preview Data.
7. PROCESS

Still, your best bet is to go through MOM helpers or manually enter in the information. Videoflicks2004 is not totally correct with his explanation and you DO want the inventory entered in correctly in the beginning. Take your time and do it right the first time!

Hi,

If you have the money / time I encourage you to get your data entered professionally. I have posted methods on entering data and many of the locations where I know relationships exist (IE STOCK / INVENTOR / BIN / . Since I don't have the secret code for the MOM database structure I can only advise you of what goes where.

MOM HELPERS gets the inside scoop from DYDACOMP on what goes where. Entering 5000 items into MOM correctly is no small task and you will spend more than a mere 800 bucks if you have to deal with the problems of not entering the data correctly the first time.

Cheers,
